How To Hire A Dependable Plumber

Dependable PlumberWe’ve all heard stories about plumbers who cheat their customers or routinely do shoddy work. Everyone in need of a repair or installation wants to find an experienced tradesperson who will do a good job for a fair price. The following tips can help you avoid unscrupulous contractors and hire a skilled, dependable plumber.

Websites with searchable directories of licensed plumbers are a useful resource for obtaining multiple quotes. Check whether the plumbers are screened before being added to the database. Look for sites which provide a forum for customer feedback or a customer ratings system.

The websites of trade associations often have a facility which allows you to search for registered plumbers in your local area. Members of organizations such as the Association of Plumbers and Heating Contractors are required to abide by a strict code of practice. If you have a dispute with a contractor who is registered with a trade body, the association can help you to resolve it.

If you need a specific job done, for example, installing a radiator, find out the typical cost involved. Enter the keywords ‘plumbing prices’ in a search engine to find websites that list charges for various types of work in your area. Compare quotes from local plumbers with the going rate.

Only do business with a tradesperson who is willing to provide you with a written guarantee. It should state that, if the repair is not correctly carried out the first time, the contractor will return to fix the ongoing problem at no extra charge. Experienced professionals will stand behind their work.

If you need a plumber to take on an expensive, labor-intensive job, be sure to get a signed contract before work starts. It should state the total cost including parts and indicate how long the work will take to complete. It should also note the amount of deposit you are required to pay up front.

Great article,I haven’t heard about this type of trade association before. This is very useful in these days, because we don’t have that much of time to find talented plumbers and how much they charge for service. Due to this website of trade association we find best plumbers and also no confusion about prices they charge

Great article! What are your thoughts on consumer based sites (i.e. Angies’s List, etc)? In addition to trade associations, I think it would be beneficial to get customer insight – getting information regarding punctuality, reliability, ‘friendliness’ of technicians can be very important to people, especially those with families. Again, great article and very valuable information!

Hi Molly, consumer based sites like Angie’s List, etc are ok for some people to gain useful insight and feedback on a contractor. However, many people would just rather research personal or trade recommendations on their own without having to pay the Angie’s list fee. Guess it’s just all about preference.

Using trade associations to hire a licensed plumber is a good point. Also important is asking friends, neighbors, and relatives who they would recommend.

  8. Amber Meek says:

Trade associations are a very good idea. I have hired plumbers and such in the past who have done terrible work, and there was nothing I could do about. I believe if there had been a trade association connected to them the situation could have possibly been resolved in a better manner.

I’m used to hiring plumbers by word of mouth or by looking up in the yellow pages. The fact that this kind of service is incredible! Find the best quotation for any work also means that you are never over charged

This article is really useful, I didn´t know there were organizations like these ones where you can actually get in contact with the person who is going to do the joband talk about the details so they can give you a rate of how much they will charge, also they are willing to help you in case you have a dispute or problem with contractors.
