Hiring A Plumber – Important Details To Consider

hiring a plumber

Finding a plumbing expert is not something easy as many people would think. It is more than getting the yellow pages and starting to call some service providers whom you find there. You need to determine if the professional whom you hire is indeed the right one for the task at hand. The following simple tips should help you hire a good plumber.

Start with asking for references. Talk to your family and friends when looking for a plumber and see if they indeed can refer you to one. If they have had a good working relationship with a plumbing contractor in the past, they will be happy to refer you. Other places where you could get referrals include such professionals as contractors, local building supply store and real estate agents.

Depending on the kind of task that you have at hand, you should make sure that you hire a contracting company that has what it takes to offer you the best. For instance, there are those who do repairs while others specialize in new installations. You will benefit immensely by hiring the right professional.

Plumbing companies that offer guarantees for their work would make good options. If problems come up before the expiry of certain period of time, they should offer to fix them without charging more money. Those who do not guarantee their work should not be given serious consideration.

Ask if the company which you are interested in has adequate insurance coverage. It is a fact that accidents do occur and you need to protect yourself from unforeseen financial claims. That is why contracting an insured firm would help.

Check with the Better Business Bureau and other reporting agencies if there are complain against the plumbing company. Your focus should be on unresolved complains. You will not find it good hiring a plumber who has many complaints against it. There are unlimited options of plumbing companies and nothing can prevent you from getting what you require.

Never take hiring a plumber lightly. This is a very important person (or team of workers) that you will allow to enter into your home and handle some of the most important and sensitive aspects of your home, so be sure to choose wisely.

It’s not everyday you stumble on an informative article like this one. Getting a reputable plumber is vital, the last thing one wants is to end up with a thief who will steal valuables from the house in the pretext of working. I will be looking to hire reputable ones only

Hiring a plumber is not as easy as getting the phone number on Google and calling it. You don’t just let anyone enter your house to do work. You gotta do your research! I love the tips because the considerations had been broken down into areas of importance – from references to reputation. This is super helpful.

I must agree to this insight. It is very important for us to consider the background history of the plumber we are hiring because we are opening our home, the very private and sensitive place for us. Thank you for this!

I find this post very informative for it provides wholesome advice on what to do before hiring a plumber. I believe the most important aspect in this post is about “Insurance” because this is actually really helpful if in the case something goes wrong with the plumbing. I actually enjoyed this post because it made me realize that there are so many things to consider before hiring a plumber!

This article sure have made me think that selecting plumber is not as simple as I thought. After reading this article I realize I only made one indicator to select a plumber that is reference, I never expect and check if the plumbing work will have guarantee or insurance coverage before. Now from all these indicators to select a plumber I have suggestion to add that is cost.

This article that I just read is extremely informative and insightful. Before reading this, I never gave a single thought about considering insurance and speciality before selecting a plumber. I have probably slightly thought of reputation, though. However, I now have a renewed outlook about the type of companies from which to select not just any plumber but a specialized plumber for the job in my home.

This article is really helpful especially for stay-at-home moms. I remember before getting married my parents would always tell me to always check the plumbings before buying a house. A word of mouth from friends and family can really help you find a very reputable plumber that will help you with your plumbings but make sure that you know what kind of plumbing task you would get some help with so that you get the right plumber. This article would help you remember the do’s and don’ts.

Thanks for this information I have been having problems with my kitchen sink for a long time because the plumber was not proper trained. I will use this information to help me get a qualified plumber to help me who can fix the issue that causes only small amounts of water to pour out of my kitchen sink sprout. Thanks

I remember last year when plumbing system in my home broke down. I decided to use my cyber ability to find plumber online. I found one. His rate was awesome, cheaper than any other plumber. Later at the afternoon when I back home, the project was done. Great!
A week later, everything back broken again. My parents recommend me their trusted plumber. His work was great.
I don’t mean to say that it’s not a good idea hired plumber online, but like the article said reputation is important. Never hired a plumber online or offline who have no good reputation. This is actually what i did, looking at the plumber rate not at the reputation. Great article!

  11. Rei says:

This is good to know. I hired an plumber with questionable background and he made things worse! Guess I’ll have to do background checks on who I hire in the future. Thanks for the post dude!

Thank you for the tips, it’s really a great advice.
All this time i thought it was easy to hire a plumber, never think that would be many things to consider. After i read this article, i agree that we should consider many things before hiring a plumber, like you said because the plumber work in one of most important thing in our life, which is our home.

Good read. I think guarantee (and reputation) is really important, which, I guess, some people disregard. It is something a friend of mine wasn’t able to consider before because he needed one immediately. When things went wrong, he has no claims on the previous one, then he hired another one, and it is a lot of hassle and as if they have to redo everything.

    • ContractorGuy says:

Hey Ray, this is why it’s good to have a plumber that you trust on standby so that you won’t have to scramble to hire just anyone out of desperation when sh#t hits the fan!

  14. Rodrigo says:

Pretty good advice, but there is one thing that doesn’t apply where I live. The insurance part, plumbing in my country is something that people with low income do for a living, usually, they don’t own a company and work by themselves. Would there be any big consequences? What would you recommend? Hire them anyway?

    • ContractorGuy says:

Go with a recommendation from a friend, family member or respected associate would be your best bet.

  15. Ainsley Denton says:

The first thing that I’d do when looking for a plumber is to ask a close friend or so. SO, I was already familiar with the first point. However, the Specialty point was a shocker — I thought all plumbers were specialist :-/

  16. Tobi says:

I have a question about the insurance: will it still pay if I hired the “wrong type” of plumber (e.g. an installation plumber for a repair)? What are is the maximum amount such an insurance would pay out? Thanks!

    • ContractorGuy says:

Hi Tobi, I strongly doubt if any insurance company would pay out simply because you made the mistake of not doing your due diligence and hired the wrong type of plumber for the job. An as far as maximum payout amounts, that varies and you would need to discuss this, in advance, with different plumbers that you’re considering hiring.

  17. Abby Jamias says:

I now know what I’d been doing wrong whenever I would hire plumbers. My plumbing problems were not solved properly. I was not aware that each firm has its own specialty and this can help target the root cause of the problem. Also, I was surprised with the guideline on insurance. I never thought that an accident may happen when plumbing jobs are done in my home. I will keep this in mind next time.

  18. Gustav Klein says:

These are very good guidelines to consider especially for someone like me who wants things to be done excellently. I will surely keep this in mind the next time I need to hire a plumber.
