Painting gives Maximum Enjoyment

If you happen to be in a rut and want to challenge yourself artistically then painting is the ideal pastime for you. It’s easy enough to venture to the shops and purchase some paint and canvas and get going, however, it’s good to know the basic principles before you start. Enrolling in a quick course is a superb start as that way you have to invest in it, and you have people to guide you. It’s always best to research what is available in your area as each and every town or city has various courses. You could find that some professional artists run workshops from their homes, and these courses are perfect for novices.

In my region I found an artist that operated specific courses. The sessions offered all through the year were landscape painting, watercolour painting, portrait painting, and for the more daring abstract painting. My instructor had us bring an image to the class of what the students desired to paint, this was the starting point. I truly enjoyed that part of the class. He went through the fundamentals in the first couple of lessons. He explained the concept of the colour wheel, and explained lines, materials and shapes.

It is extremely important to understand that all people have the ability to tap into their creative potential. When people declare “I am not an artist”, or “I am not able to paint”, it really bothers me. Being nice to yourself is very important, in addition to, not judging yourself too harshly. You must give yourself time to become skilled at painting, it can be difficult. Nonetheless, over time you will progress and very soon be producing perfect art. We are our own toughest critics and it is easy to get frustrated when a painting does not come out the way you want it, but you know what…get over it! Should you spend a lot of time fretting over a picture you simply won’t be able to see the big picture. Take a step back from your own work, as a result, you can obtain a fresh viewpoint.

One of the extra advantages of painting is that the process of it is healing. Blending colours and applying them to a canvas is extremely calming. It is daunting initially as you have an empty canvas and it is up to you what you do with it. One form of painting that I find is great fun is abstract painting. There aren’t any predefined forms, all you have to do is paint from the soul. Just see what happens when you smear paint where you want it. Painting is messy but so much fun. You may even find that you go into ‘the zone’, and before you are aware of it, five hours have passed. I have never left an art class stressed-out. You can experience a catharsis that’s beneficial to the soul.

Many folks run workshops that fit in with working hours so having a full time job is no excuse. You’re going to get the opportunity to make something fantastic if you can commit to a class once per week for six weeks. Is there any reason not to?

We have all been in a rut, locked in a pattern of circumstances that we cannot seem to get out of. Sometimes, those circumstances change by themselves, but more often we need to take action to ensure that we don’t become stuck in a rut.
